Overnight Oatmeal -No Cook! Grab-N-Go!

Wish you can prepare yourself a nice breakfast in the morning but just don’t have the extra time? Why not prepare it the night before…  Skeptical?

Try this amazing version of oatmeal prepared overnight (recommend by our weblog designer Joyce Dyer) that requires NO COOKING and takes only a minute or two to put together.  For my recipe of Cinnamon Cranberry Overnight Oatmeal…

(Recipe adapted from http://www.katheats.com)

1/3 cup old rolled oats

1/3 cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt

1/3 cup of 2% milk

2 tbsp of dried cranberries

½ tsp sugar, white granulated

Pinch of ground cinnamon

½ tbsp of sliced almonds

Bowl or a sealed to-go container

  1. On the night before, mix all ingredients expect the almonds in a bowl until ingredients are fully submerge in the liquid.  Cover with plastic or lid.  Chill overnight or for at least 6 hours in the refrigerator.

2.  At the following morning, slight stir the oatmeal.  If you wish, you can add additional liquid such as milk or yogurt to achieve the desired thickness or consistency. Top with almonds and an extra dash of cinnamon. Enjoy!

Tips: Wait until the next morning or when ready to eat to add toppings that you want to keep fresh or crispy, such as dried nuts or fresh fruit.

Variations:  Make your own version of overnight oatmeal by combining different types of milks, yogurts, sweeteners and your favorite topping such as dried fruits or nuts.

Liquids: Fruit yogurt (strawberry, blueberry, peach), strawberry or chocolate milk, soymilk, almond milk, condensed milk, coconut milk

Sweeteners: sugar (raw, white, brown), honey, maple syrup, agave nectar, caramel, chocolate syrup

Toppings/Add-ins: Nuts, granola, chocolate chips, dried fruit (cranberry, dates, cherries, apricot, raisins), shredded coconut, peanut butter

Spices/Flavorings: Vanilla extract, cinnamon

….plus MORE! Post your version of Overnight Oatmeal with your favorite toppings!
